Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to image soft tissue in real time — no radiation involved. Our sonographers are ASAR-accredited with sub-specialty interests across musculoskeletal, abdominal, vascular and obstetric imaging.

What to expect

  • Most studies take 20 to 45 minutes, depending on the area being imaged.
  • Warm gel is applied to the skin so the probe glides smoothly.
  • We talk you through the imaging as we go — the sonographer can show you what's being captured.

How to prepare

  • Abdominal scans: fast for 6 hours beforehand, with no food or water, and don't smoke in that time. If you must take medication, take it with as little water as possible.
  • Pelvic scans: drink 1L of water in the hour before your appointment and don't empty your bladder.
  • Pregnancy dating scans (under 13 weeks): arrive with a moderately full bladder.
  • Most other studies need no preparation. Call reception if you're unsure.

General ultrasound has a private gap from $115. Concession and pension card holders are bulk billed. Reception confirms the cost when you book.
