FAQs
The questions reception answers every day.
Twelve of the most common — sorted by booking, billing, results and accessibility.
Do I need an appointment?
All X-rays and routine dental imaging are walk-in during clinic hours (8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday). All others require a booking — fill in the booking form or call reception.
Do I need a referral?
For most studies, yes — from a GP, specialist, dentist, podiatrist or chiropractor (depending on the modality). 3D/4D baby and body composition scans don't require a referral.
Will I pay anything?
Almost every Medicare-rebated study at Border Radiology is bulk billed, so you'll pay nothing out of pocket. Pension and concession card holders are bulk billed for every Medicare-rebated study. For everyone else there's a private gap on ultrasound (general ultrasound from $115, obstetric ultrasound $155), ultrasound-guided injections ($155) and biopsy ($255). Studies with no Medicare rebate have a set fee for everyone: CT Calcium Score ($155 flat), non-rebateable MRI ($315), 3D/4D baby scans ($205) and body composition ($75). Reception quotes any fee at the time of booking.
How long will I be at the clinic?
Most X-rays are in and out in 15 minutes. CT takes 10–30 minutes. Ultrasound is typically 20–45 minutes. Image-guided injections take up to 45 minutes. We try to run on time — however, some urgent or clinically complex cases pop up from time to time and can cause us to run behind.
How do I get my report?
Reports go straight to the doctor who referred you, within 48 hours on average, and urgent studies are prioritised on the day. You can also view your images and reports via our Intelerad patient portal.
Can I see my old scans from another clinic?
If your prior imaging was done locally we can access these. If they were done elsewhere, bringing a previous report is recommended.
What do I bring?
Your referral (or a photo of it on your phone), Medicare card, any concession or DVA card, and any prior imaging if you have it.
Can someone come with me?
Yes. One extra person is welcome to be with you during the scan for most studies, and an interpreter can come in as well. For some procedures we'll ask them to wait in reception for safety reasons.
Is there parking?
Yes — easy on-street and priority parking for limited mobility within our driveway access from Kiewa Street.
Is the clinic accessible?
Level access throughout, wheelchair-accessible scan rooms, and an accessible bathroom. Let reception know your needs when you book and we'll make sure everything's ready.
What if I'm running late?
Call reception — we can sometimes still fit you in or rebook for later that day. Late arrivals occasionally need to be pushed to the next available slot if the day's running tight.
Will my scan use radiation?
X-ray, CT, DEXA and dental imaging use small amounts of ionising radiation. Ultrasound and MRI use no radiation. We always use the lowest dose appropriate for each scan. Let us know if you're pregnant or might be.
