Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves, with no ionising radiation, to produce highly detailed images of soft tissue, joints, the spine and the brain. Our new Siemens scanner delivers high-resolution imaging with specialised musculoskeletal sequences, reported by Dr Kong.

What to expect

  • Reception checks your referral and screens you for any metal implants or devices before you enter the scan room.
  • You lie still on the scan table while the scanner captures each sequence — most studies take 20 to 45 minutes.
  • The scanner is noisy while it images; we provide headphones or earplugs for comfort.
  • Your study is reported by our radiologist and sent to your referring doctor.

How to prepare

  • Bring your referral, Medicare card and any prior imaging or films.
  • Tell us in advance if you have a pacemaker, cochlear implant, aneurysm clip or any metal in your body — some implants are not MRI-safe.
  • Wear comfortable clothing free of metal zips, studs and underwire where possible.

Rebateable MRI scans are bulk billed. Non-rebateable studies are a flat $315 — reception will confirm which applies when you book.
